Battle of Bull Run Primary Source Lesson Plan

Primary Source lesson Bull Run

Battle of Bull Run

This lesson about the Battle of Bull Run uses primary sources such as letters, diaries, and photographs to really get students thinking and asking questions.  It’s my FAVORITE lesson of the school year! The Powerpoint presentation includes a review of the events leading up to the battle, maps of the area, and some photographs.  Through the use of the primary sources, students see the battle from the perspective of a soldier who took part and civilians caught in the middle.  I adapted this lesson using the materials found on the www.nps.gov website. (The direct link can be found on the front page of the powerpoint).
